Manchester United Close to Signing Paraguayan Wonderkid Diego Leon

Manchester United are on the verge of signing 17-year-old left-back Diego Leon. The young Paraguayan defender, who plays for Cerro Porteno, was recently spotted at an airport, excitement about his move to Old Trafford.

Leon won’t officially join United until he turns 18 in April, but reports from Paraguay confirm that he has traveled to England this weekend to undergo a medical and finalize the transfer.

The talented teenager made his first-team debut for Cerro Porteno last August and has since caught the attention of big clubs like Arsenal and Manchester City. However, it’s United who are set to snap him up, making him the first signing under new manager Ruben Amorim.

Paraguayan journalist Juan Denis shared photos of Leon at the airport, and reports from La Nacion say United are eager to introduce him to the club's facilities during his short visit to Manchester. After a few days in England, Leon will head to Venezuela to play for Paraguay’s Under-20 team in the South American Championship.

The deal is reportedly worth an initial £3 million, with additional add-ons included. For now, Leon will remain at Cerro Porteno until the summer when he is expected to join United for pre-season training.

Leon’s arrival comes at a crucial time for United, who are short on options at left-back. Injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have left the team struggling for depth in that position.

Leon has drawn comparisons to Real Madrid legend Marcelo, and his former coach, Manolo Jimenez, believes he has a bright future. “Manchester United saw what we all saw in him,” Jimenez told Versus. “He’s a full-back with incredible attacking potential. With time, he’ll improve defensively and grow into an even better player.”

United fans will be excited to see what this promising youngster can bring to the team as he begins his journey at Old Trafford.
